Alla sua prima personale presso la galleria GiaMaArt studio, Sonia Ceccotti presenta una serie di lavori a carboncino di varia dimensione, dedicati al tema del ritratto. Il titolo scelto per la mostra, “Facce riciclate”, fa innanzitutto riferimento alla volontà di proporre una serie di disegni i cui soggetti siano già stati utilizzati in precedenti lavori: l’artista stessa (il soggetto in cui riesce ad esprimersi meglio); il compagno; gli affetti famigliari, ma anche immagini femminili tratte da internet in base a scelte meramente estetiche. Nello stesso tempo, però, il concetto del “riciclaggio” rimanda anche alla scelta di inserire nel disegno elementi “poveri”. Si tratta di materiali tratti direttamente dalla vita quotidiana, e in particolare dal materiale da imballaggio: cartone ondulato (che funge da supporto al disegno), nastri adesivi da pacco, nastri isolanti, codici a barre. Elementi che vengono distribuiti sul supporto del disegno a inframmezzarne i tratti, a sottolineare particolari punti di luce e ombra, a dare intensità agli sguardi. Il tutto dà vita a un’estetica del recupero che da un lato interroga e illumina i tratti figurativi del carboncino, dall’altro intrattiene un dialogo con la vita quotidiana muovendosi in una precisa direzione: quella della riabilitazione del “basso”, di qualcosa che altrimenti verrebbe fisicamente scartato e svalutato. Il risultato è un interessante connubio di figurazione tradizionale e intervento materico, che contribuisce a suscitare interesse e attrazione nello spettatore. Con questa precisa scelta estetica, Sonia Ceccotti inaugura un nuovo filone di ricerca che si affianca alla pittura a olio fin qui utilizzata. Non una sostituzione, ma un modo alternativo di sentire e interpretare il proprio lavoro, nato da una circostanza puramente casuale: il continuo utilizzo del materiale da imballaggio per avvolgere le proprie tele (comune a tutti gli artisti). Da qui, la curiosità e l’urgenza di tradurre in opera la propria esperienza quotidiana, facendo passare i soggetti ritratti quasi in secondo piano rispetto alla modalità stessa del fare.

In her first personal exposition at the GiaMaArt studio gallery, Sonia Ceccotti presents a series of carbon drawings of various dimensions, dedicated to portraits. The title chosen for the exhibition , “Recycled Faces” first of all, is a reference to the willingness of proposing a series of drawings whose subjects have already been used in previous works: the artist herself (the subject in which she is better able to express herself); her partner; family members; but also female images taken from the internet based on targeted aesthetic choices. At the same time though, the concept of “recycling” also draws us back to the choice of inserting “poor” elements in the work. It is about elements taken directly from everyday life and in particular packaging material: corrugated cardboard (that acts as a support to the drawing), adhesive masking tape, isolation tape, barcodes. Elements which are distributed on the supports of the drawing fragmenting the features, highlighting the particular points of light and shadow and giving intensity to the looks. All gives life to an aesthetic of “regaining”, which on one side questions and illuminates the figurative traits of carbon drawing and on the other side sustains a dialogue with everyday life. It moves in a precise direction: that of the rehabilitation of the “low”; something which would otherwise be physically rejected and undervalued. The result is an interesting mix of traditional painting and material intervention that contributes to arouse the viewer’s interest in and attraction towards the work. With this precise aesthetic choice, Sonia Ceccotti inaugurates a new vein of research that supports the traditional oil painting used up until now. It is not a substitution but an alternative way of feeling and interpreting one’s own work, born from purely natural circumstances: the continual use of packaging material in which to wrap the canvases (an action common to all artists). From here, the curiosity and urgency to translate the artist’s everyday experience into a work of art sets off, having the subjects that are portrayed almost pass off in second place compared to the actual modality of the making.
